A well know UK Hotel upgrades their failing wireless system to a low cost, modern high speed solution without compromising the commercial operation or aesthetic integrity of the building.
Here is the scenario. You are an award winning hotel with over 80 rooms who, for many years, has provided your guests with outstanding services in a range of key arrears such as customer care, cleanliness, and dining. However, there is one major obstacle to achieving the ‘full house’ in guest satisfaction. Your guest Internet is a nightmare!
This is the scenario that was faced by a top UK hotel who recently sought the assistance of Pen Mobile’s wireless partner Extreme Networks. The hotel at this point had already tried three different Wi-Fi vendors without any success. They had also invested significantly in new wireless equipment and network infrastructure upgrades to improve their network performance. Everything they tried fell short of modern day Wi-Fi standards and guest expectations.
The hotel building itself, like many hotels across the UK, was of a concrete construction with historic sensitivities. Other providers had suggested core drilling and running wiring between the floors. This was not a desirable solution. Not least because of the disruption of the operation of the hotel from both a commercial and guest disturbance point of view. Running wires down corridors and hallways would also compromise the aesthetic integrity of the hotel.
After some investigation into trusted hospitality HSIA (High Speed Internet Access) vendors, Extreme were approached to investigate and provide a solution. Extreme sent one of their hospitality experts to survey the property and discover some of the challenges they that needed to be overcome.

“To achieve this, we knew that we needed a more robust and flexible solution than had previously been tried or proposed. It’s not enough just to install any wireless HSIA solution”
Extreme were able to offer their unique T5 Wireless WiNG System to overcome both the commercial and aesthetic hurdles faced by the hotel. T5 Wireless uses a property’s pre-existing telephone wiring to provide affordable high-speed Wi-Fi. T5 uses the existing CAT3 analog phone lines and completely eradicates the need for core drilling and unsightly wiring. The T5 Wireless solution also improves signal strength and performance by bringing Wi-Fi where the guests are in their rooms. The access point in each room is a simple replacement of the traditional RJ11 telephone plate with a Wi-Fi hot spot for guest room access. This ensures a consistent and high quality wireless experience across the all hotel rooms.
The T5 wireless system for hotels also uses the latest 802.11ac technology which is designed to support both newer devices as well as legacy devices. This is an essential element of any modern wireless network, especially as hotel guests are now travelling with an average of 2-3 devices per person.
Within 3 days of the point of order the hotel was up and running with new solution which guaranteed 5GHz Wi-Fi coverage throughout the property. Even previous deadspots were operating to the new specifications. In the succeeding months following installation not a single Wi-Fi complaint was received.
